Four points about deforestation

Loss of
biodiversity

An increase in
greenhouse
gases

Disruption of the
water cycle

An increase in
global
warming

media

1. Loss of biodiversity

The effects of deforestation on the environment are far-
reaching. One of the most important effects is the loss of
biodiversity in forest ecosystems. Forests provide a source
of food and shelter for animals. As forests are destroyed,
mammals, birds, insects, and other creatures are
displaced from their habitats and must find other
locations to live. It is estimated that around 80% of wildlife
on Earth lives in forest ecosystems. By destroying forests,
natural dependencies within nature are also destroyed,
which upsets the balance of life.

11

media

2. An increase in greenhouse gases

Destroying trees also releases extra greenhouse gases such
as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
During the natural process of photosynthesis, plants draw
greenhouse gases out of the air and create oxygen. Burning
trees releases stored carbon dioxide, which warms the climate
of the Earth.
Climate change is largely a consequence of deforestation.

12

media

3 Climate change
If humans are not able to
find more effective and
environmentally friendly
alternatives to
deforestation and
human development, the
practice may lead to
more serious
consequences for the
planet and human
survival.

13

media

Desruption to the water cycle

As more and more trees get cut down, evaporation levels are
disrupted, drying up the moisture in the air and throwing off the
balance of the water cycle

Did you know:

Transpiration is the

process of water
evaporation from

plants?

Find a way to properly use agriculture
research-team time!

How can technology make nuclear energy safer

First team to find it gets 4 points

Second gets 2 points

Third gets 1 point for the team(1point is 100 XP in
Classcraft)

media

The Green Revolution refers to a transformative 20th-century agricultural project that utilized plant genetics, modern irrigation systems, and chemical fertilizers and pesticides to increase food production and reduce poverty and hunger in developing countries.

Green revolution

16

Multiple Choice

Green revolution was a change in what aspect of human technology

1

The ability to grow crops to feed more people

2

The ability to grow crops in only optimal circumsances

3

The advancement of factories and pollution from energy use

4

We are limited on food sources and starvation and chaos is iminent
