CONDITIONALS

If + present simple, present simple

Example:
If water reaches 100 degrees, It starts to boil.

​Structure

0 conditional is used to express well-known facts (always true) and laws of this universe.

​When to use?

0 conditional

If + present simple, will + V0

Example:
If we finish in time, I will go to your party.

​Structure

1'st conditional is used to express probable things that might happen. (NOW OR IN THE FUTURE)

​When to use?

1'st conditional

If + past simple, would + V0

Example:
If I were you, I would ask her out for dinner.

​Structure

2'nd conditional is used to express situations that will never happen (gdybanie). (NOW)

​When to use?

2'nd conditional

If + past perfect, would have + V3

Example:
We would have passed our exams if we had studied harder.

3'rd conditional is used to express situations that happened in the past and cannot be changed. (PAST)

​When to use?

3'rd conditional

If + past perfect, would + V0

Example:
If I had asked for directions earlier, I wouldn't be lost now.

It is a mix of 3rd and 2nd conditionals. This combination is used to express past situations with consequences in the present or the future.

​When to use?

mixed conditional 3+2

If + past simple, would have + V3

Example:
If they were,t afraid of spiders, they would have searched the basement too.

Similar to the previous mixed conditional, it is a mix of 2nd and 3rd conditionals. It is used to express a present situation that might have affected something in the past
