What type of Government does Australia Have?

Australia:

Australia has a Parliamentary-style government. This means that the legislature votes upon the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister runs the day-to-day functions of the government. The people still have some power in a parlimentary democracy. The people are able to vote upon who serves in the legislature, but the people DO NOT choose who the Prime Minister is. Australia is also a Constitutional Monarchy. This means that the monarch is the head of state. The monarch does not have a lot of power, but they do have ceremonial duties. When the monarch is not in Australia a Governor General is appointed.

Australia

Canada's voting is a lot like the United States. It is an important civil duty but it is not required. If Canadians choose not to vote there is no penalty. The people in Canada vote for the legislature.

It is important to remember in Australia the local level cannot raise taxes.

Canada has a three-tiered system of government, which includes the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal levels. The Federal level is responsible for crafting policies that have a nationwide impact. This includes areas such as criminal law, taxation, and immigration. The Provincial level deals with policies that impact the specific province, such as education, agriculture, and highways. Lastly, the Municipal level is responsible for policies that are implemented at the city level. This would include public transportation, social services, and libraries.
