Computer-Aided Design Vocabulary

​computer-aided design or computer-aided drawing, the use of a computer to create, modify, or typically in an engineering or architecture field.

​CAD

An auxiliary view is simply a “helper” view, which shows the slanted part of the object as it actually is. It turns, or projects, the. object so that the true size and shape of the surface (or surfaces) are seen as they actually are.

In this design, individual parts of the system are specified in detail. The parts are linked to form larger components, which are in turn linked until a complete system is formed. Object-oriented language such as C++ or java uses a bottom-up approach where each object is identified first. 

Bottom-Up Modeling

In Top-Down modeling, the focus is on the assembly, and the individual components are modeled around the entire assembly. With Top-Down modeling, you will have a single design file and each of the components will be modeled based on the references and geometry of its surrounding components.

The edges of two 2D objects or the adjacent faces of a 3D solid.
