​What is the present perfect?

You use the present perfect to say what someone has done. We had two examples in our vocabulary:
he visto = I have seen
has visto = you have seen

How is it formed?

Like the imperfect progressive tense, the present perfect has two parts.
1. present tense conjugation of haber
2. past participle (imperfect progressive used the present participle)

How is it formed? cont.

-ar -> -ado
comprar -> comprado
-er/-ir -> ido
correr -> corrido
vivir -> vivido
(there are irregulars too, but we will cover them in another lesson)

Los detectives han capturado a los criminales. The detectives have captured the criminals.
