In-Text Citations

In-Text Citations are used to mark each use of a source and alert the readers to shift between your ideas and those you have borrowed.

-

  • For every source listed in your Works Cited page, you must have a corresponding in-text citation in your writing.

  • These internal citations should appear throughout your writing following any textual evidence (i.e. quote, paraphrase, summary, etc.).

-

The problem with simply listing the sources in the Works Cited page without proving the corresponding in-text citations throughout your paper is that no one can tell which source each bit of information/evidence came from.
