Pretérito Indefinido
Usamos este tiempo cuando nos referimos a hechos y acontecimientos en el pasado. Sucedieron ayer, la semana pasada, el año pasado.

Ejemplos

Primer uso: Acción puntual [specific and finished time in the past]
- Compré un departamento en el 2019. [I bought an apartment in 2019.]
- Salí de fiesta el viernes pasado. [ I went to the party last Friday.]
- Comí paella en Madrid en el 2018. [ I ate paella in Madrid in 2018.]
Segundo uso: tiene una duración determinada y finalizada. [ It has a determined and finished duration in the past.]
- El año pasado mi hermano estuvo 2 semanas enfermo en casa. [ It has a determined duration and finished in the past.]
- Viví en Inglaterra durante dos meses en el 2015. [ I lived in England for 2 months in 2015.]
- Mi amigo trabajó durante 4 años en Estados Unidos. [My friend worked in the United States for 4 years.]

Pretérito Imperfecto

Se usa cuando hablamos de descripciones en el pasado. Esto implica una diferencia entre el pasado y el ahora.

Se usa cuando hablamos de descripciones en el pasado. Implica hacer una diferencia o un contraste entre el pasdo y el presente (ahora).

1. Hoy la mayoría de las personas viven en la ciudad.

   [Currently, most people live in the city, in Spain.]

1. Antes en España, la gente vivía en el campo.

   [The people lived in the field before in the past, in Spain.]

​Préterito imperfecto

Primer uso: to talk about descriptions in the past and to contrast what something happened in the past to the present.

When I used to go to the university, I used to get up at 5:00 in the morning.
