  • Why? 

  • First: Calculate the root (=zero) by setting the divisor equal to zero

  • Second: List all the coefficients of the dividend, making sure to replace missing ones with a 0

  • Third: Bring down the first coefficient

  • Fourth: Multiply the coefficient by the root
