一向 adv. all along, hasalways...

Function

The adverb一向means "it has always been thecase that " referring to habits or aptitudes.

⭐️他一向很热心，总是喜欢帮助人。

⭐️这家公司的东西一向质量很好，你可以放心买他们的产品。

他一向喜欢开玩笑，妳不需要对他说的话认真。因为认真妳就输了。

他一向很照顾妹妹，不管妹妹碰到什么问题，他都尽量帮忙。

(1) Both一向and 一直 indicate the continuation of an action or a state from the past to the present.

一向however, stresses something being habitual, while一直emphasizes continuation, without interruption. They are thus not always interchangeable. e.g.

​他一向不相信我说的话。 He has never believed what I say. (Habitual)

他一直不相信我说的话。He still doesn’t believe what I say.

他一向一放假就出国旅游。 （*一直）

她旅行以前， 一向先计画好。 （*一直）

一向can only be used to describe something in the past.

一直can be used to express something in the future.

他会一直陪着你走到学校。 （*一向)

他从昨天到现在一直在等你电话。 （* 一向）

小孩感冒了。妈妈今天会一直在家照顾他。 （*一向）

你要一直提醒爸爸倒垃圾，他才记得。 （*一向）
