​Simple Sentences

​Example: The girl ran down the street.

a sentence consisting of only one clause
subject + verb

​Compound Sentences

​Example: The girl ran down the street, and her brother followed her.

made up of at least two main clauses connected by a coordinating conjunction.
(For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So)

​Complex Sentences

Because she ran away, her mother was worried.

a sentence with one independent clause and at least one dependent clause

dependent clause uses a subordinating conjunction (ISAWAWABUB)

​Compound - Complex Sentences

​A compound sentence joined with a complex sentence 

Because the children ran away, their mother was worried and their dad went after them in the car.
