​Today we are going to complete part of a 10th grade FAST Reading practice test. First, you will work alone to determine which answers you think are correct. Then, you can work with your peers to discuss the answers selected. Finally, you will individually enter your selected answers in our Quizizz.

Read the title, scan the length of the text.

Read each question, highlighting key words.

Read the paragraph mentioned in the question.

Use strikethrough to eliminate wrong options.

Highlight the KEY WORDS in each question.
Reread the portion of the text referenced.
For whole-text questions, review your highlights in the text.
Use B to answer A! Two part questions should be completed as a single unit.
Use process of elimination to remove wrong answers (two should easily go).
Once you're down to 2 options, ask yourself why each option is wrong.
Always pick the answer that is most supported by the text.
Remember to flag questions to review any that are tricky.

​Start by reading & annotating the title of the text/s & previewing the length
Then read EVERY QUESTION & highlight the KEY WORDS in each
Next read the passage slowly & carefully.
~With poetry, you should read the text at least TWO TIMES. It will likely be a narrative, which means you MUST read the entire poem!
~Break the poem into sentences. Read each sentence & paraphrase it.
~Identify figurative language & consider its connotations (why that simile, etc.)
~Look for indications of the author's attitude (how do they feel?)
~Find the buts. Look for places that shift (time, tone, focus, feeling)
~You will be asked about theme. Find lines that support that theme.
