  • Glacial troughs (or valleys) are formed when ice occupies a V shape river valley, expands it and makes it wider turning into a U shape valley.

Imagine a big scoop of ice cream as a glacier.

if you start eating the ice cream from the middle you will create a trough (valley) in the middle, a glacier moving down a mountain can carve out a similar shape in the land, making a valley called a glacial trough.
