Look at the picture and answer the
following:-
•1) Identify the movement of the
earth.
•2)The imaginary line running
through the center of the Earth
from North pole to the South Pole .

3
EARTH’S HEMISPHERES
The Earth can be
divided into (2
groups of 2) four
hemispheres
1)Northern
2)Southern
3)Eastern
4)Western
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
4

What is an Equator and
Prime Meridian?
Recap
5
BIG QUESTION
What if all parts of the Earth received an equal
amount of heat energy from the Sun?
6
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Describe how
earths movement
effects the climate
of the earth.
Explore how
changes of
seasons occur on
the earth.
7
CASE STUDY
• Amal and his friends visited
Europe. They noticed longer
days and shorter nights during
summer, and that the opposite
happens during winter.
• Why are the days longer and
shorter nights in summer and
its opposite happens in winter?
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
8
CASE STUDY
• Amal and his friends visited
Europe. They noticed longer
days and shorter nights during
summer, and that the opposite
happens during winter. His
friends predicted that this may
be due to the tilted axis of the
earth and the earth’s
revolution.
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
9
OBSERVE THE
PICTURE
The Earth revolves
around the sun in a
specific path called an
Orbit.
The Earth is slightly
tilted at 23.5 degrees
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
10
Watch the video on the movement of the
Earth around the sun.
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
11
Multiple Choice
1.______________ is the movement of the Earth around the sun.
Rotation
Revolution
clockwise
anticlockwise
12
Multiple Choice
2. Longer days and shorter nights during___________, and that the opposite happens during______________.
13
Multiple Choice
3.The earth revolves around the sun in a specific path called an ______________
axis
elliptical
anticlockwise
14
Do you think that seasons will be
the same in both the hemispheres
of the Earth?
Why/why not?
Think-Pair-Share
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
15
Different seasons are caused on the
earth due to its revolution.
The earth being tilted on its axis, it is
summer in the Northern hemisphere as
it is tilted towards the sun and winter in
the southern hemisphere.
Thus the seasons are opposite in both
the hemispheres.
Think-Pair-Share
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
16
What changes are caused on the
earth due to its revolution?
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
17
The earth takes 365 ¼ days to
complete one revolution. During its
revolution, one part of the earth
faces the sun, and the other part
doesn’t. Thus, different seasons are
observed such as summer, winter,
spring, autumn in both the
hemispheres as the earth revolves in
an orbit around the sun.
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
18
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
Achievers
1.Which is most
responsible for change
of seasons on the earth?
2. The Northern
hemisphere is tilted
away from the sun from
September to March.
Which season will be
observed in the
Northern hemisphere?
Explorers
The student makes the model
to understand seasons on
Earth’s NH and SH by placing
a globe on the table and
flashing a torchlight on the
globe as shown. Which
season does the student’s
model represent?
Scholars
The diagram shows earth
in different locations
around the sun. Which
location represent earth
when it is winter in the
a) Southern Hemisphere
b) Northern Hemisphere
c) Justify your answer.
19
What would happen if the
earth not tilted on its axis?
20
Goal Post
➢ Identify the movements of the earth.
➢ Explain how do change of seasons occur on the earth
21
Multiple Choice
1. The change in seasons on the earth occurs due to ________
A. The distance between the sun and the earth is not constant.
B. The axis of rotation of the Earth is parallel to the plane of its orbit.
D. The axis of rotation of the Earth is tilted with respect to the plane of its orbit.
22
Multiple Choice
2. Arrange the following from the smallest to the biggest.
Moon, Jupiter, Sun, Earth
A. Moon, Sun, Earth, Jupiter
B. Moon, Jupiter, Earth, Sun
C. Moon, Earth, Jupiter, Sun
D) Earth, Moon, Sun, Jupiter
23
Multiple Choice
3. Ram: Only the Sun moves around the Earth.
Rahim: Earth moves around the sun on an elliptical orbit.
Manaaz: Earth revolves around the sun on a tilted axis.
Jennifer: Neither the Sun nor the Moon moves around the Earth.
Who is correct?
A. Ram
B. Rahim
C. Manaaz & Jennifer
D. Rahim and Manaaz
24
Multiple Choice
4. Which of these would be the time taken by the Earth to turn once on its own axis?
A. a day
B. a month
C. a week
D. an year
25
EXTENSION TASK
