The Subjunctive in Adjective Clauses

The key point is that you have to decide is whether the person, place , thing or idea that is being referred to is undecided or indefinite. When it is undecided or indefinite, we must use the SUBJUNCTIVE.

Otherwise, the indicative will be used ( present tense or past tense).

Here are some examples in English first:

I want to buy a red car.

We need to find someone who works at the Embassy.

Are there restaurants around here that are open now?

3

Repaso:

In all of the previous examples, what would be used?

The Subjunctive or the Indicative?

4

Poll

Which would you use?

Indicative

Subjunctive

5

La Razón:

If you chose the subjunctive, you would be correct!

" I want to buy a red car." A specific red car is not mentioned - indefinite.

"We need to find someone who works at the Embassy" - a specific person is not mentioned; indefinite.

"Are there restaurants around here that are open now? - uncertainty
