The simple present tense in English is used to describe an action that is regular, true or normal.

1. For repeated or regular actions in the present time period.
John sleeps eight hours a night on weekdays.

2. For facts (reality).

4. For things that are always / generally true.

Form of the verb

Action verbs can be divided into 2 categories, depending on the subject they are used with:

*Base form --> I/you/we/they/plural nouns

‘S’ form --> he/she/it/singular nouns

*Base form = no modification to the verb

Spelling rules for 's' form

For subjects he, she, it or singular. ​

For verbs that end in a consonant + Y, we remove the Y and add -ies.

For verbs that end in -O, -CH, -SH, -SS, -X, or -Z we add -es.
