Tom raced down the sidewalk, his dog Rufus
bounding along happily beside him. As they
turned the corner, a large curtain of black
smoke billowed out from Mrs. Wilson's house up
ahead. Tom saw the elderly woman stumbling
out her front door, coughing and waving her
cane frantically. He sprinted forward, catching
Mrs. Wilson just as she collapsed onto her lawn.
With Rufus' help barking up a storm, Tom was
able to alert neighbors and get emergency
responders to the scene before the entire house
was in flames.
