​Chapter 1

• Percy Jackson attends Yancy Academy, a boarding school for troubled kids. He struggles with dyslexia and ADHD, which makes school even more challenging.

• During a school trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, his math teacher, Mrs. Dodds, turns into a Fury and attacks him. Percy discovers he can see things others can't, like monsters, and he defeats her with the help of his Latin teacher, Mr. Brunner, who gives him a pen that turns into a sword.

​Chapter 2

• Percy returns home for the summer but faces more trouble. His stepfather, Gabe, is abusive and unpleasant.

• Strange things continue to happen around Percy, such as a sudden storm appearing over his head while playing a game of dodgeball.

• On a trip to Montauk with his mother, Sally, they are attacked by a Minotaur. During the attack, Sally sacrifices herself to save Percy, and he kills the Minotaur using its own horn.

​Chapter 3

• Percy wakes up at a camp called Camp Half-Blood, a refuge for children of Greek gods and mortals.

• He meets Grover Underwood, who is revealed to be a satyr, and Mr. Brunner, who is actually a centaur named Chiron.

• Percy learns about his true identity as a demigod, son of Poseidon, and is warned that he is in danger because Zeus's lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

​Chapter 4

• Percy starts to settle into camp life and befriends Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, and Luke Castellan, son of Hermes.

• He begins training in sword fighting and discovers more about his powers, like the ability to control water.
