Pitch can be high and low. They're affected by:
1. length of bar
2. length of string
3. thickness of string
4.tautness of string
5. length of air column

Lodness can be loud and soft. They're affected by: 1. amount of energy used to make the sound
2. distance from the source of the sound

What is sound?

• Sound is a form of energy.

• Sound travels in waves.

• Sound is what we hear with our ears

Sound occurs when..

• there is a back-and-forth movement called VIBRATION.

• You can see drums vibrate when you strike them or the strings on a guitar vibrate when you pluck them.

When strings are plucked on a guitar, the strings VIBRATE to create sound energy!

BIG vibrations...

• make LOUD sounds!

Small vibrations...

• make quiet sounds

S-L-O-W vibrations make...

• lower pitch because its a slower frequency.

Sound must have MATTER to travel through.

• Think of the sound moving through the guitar string, or think of the rumble in your chest from a marching band during a parade.

What is pitch?

• Pitch is how HIGH or how LOW a sound is.

• Think of an opera singer hitting a high note in her song.

FAST vibrations make...

• higher pitch because its a faster frequency.

​Sound waves are produced when we hit a drum.

xylophones are made up of different lengths.

when we hit the bars, they produce sounds of different pitches.

A shorter bar produces a sound of a higher pitch than a longer bar.
