INSTALLATION TASKS

•Updates system files: the setup program provides configuration data to the operating
system so it can run the software. On a Windows computer, this information is stored in
the window Registry, a database of information about your computer’s configuration.

•Provides a way to start the software: The setup program adds a button, icons, or tile to the
graphical user interface so you can start the software.

that fits the organization’s unique needs.

•Shareware: is distributed free of charge as a download on the web,
often by single programmers who want to distribute their software
independently without packaging or advertising.

•Freeware: is software the developer makes available to users free of
charge.

•Public domain software: is the only type of software that is not
copyright.
