Sportler sollten eine Grundbildung über die chemischen Prozesse in ihrem Körper haben, um so optimal zu trainierend und Muskelverletzungen zu vermeiden. Diese enstehen bei der Produktion von Milchsäure in den Muskelzellen bei Sauerstoffmangel.
Stoffwechselbiologen haben Bakterien gefunden, welche Plastikmüll abbauen können und möchten diese nun auf Deponien und Plastikteppichen im Meer einsetzen.
Die Fotosynthese ist die sauberste Methode um energiereiche Stoffe herzustellen. Sie eröffnet der Wissenschaft die Möglichkeit nachhaltig elektrischen Strom zu gewinnen oder Kraftstoffe zu erzeugen.

Aus organischem Material oder auch Plastikmüll kann unter anderem mithilfe der Stoffwechselwege von Mikroorganismen zu dem neuen Kraftstoff Biomethanol umgewandelt werden. Die Reinheit der Kraftstoffe ist bedeutend höher als die herkömmlicher Erdölprodukte. Das hat zur Folge, dass beim verbrennen des Treibstoffs kaum giftige Stickoxide oder Feinstaubpartikel entstehen.
