A noun is a word that represents a person, place, or thing.
Everything we can see or talk about is represented by a word.
That word is called a "noun." You might find it useful to think of
a noun as a "naming word."

Common Nouns
A noun can be categorized as either a common noun or a
proper noun.
● Common Noun
A common noun is the word for a person, place, or thing. It
is the word that appears in the dictionary. For example:
○ person
○ city
○ dog

Proper Nouns
A proper noun is the given name of a person, place, or
thing. It is likely to be a personal name or a title. For
example:
○ Michael
○ Jamaica
○ Rover
○ Honda
● Note: A proper noun always starts with a
capital letter.

Collective Nouns
Collective nouns are used to name a group of persons, places,
animals or things. A collective noun represents a complete whole.
For examples: a library of books, a team of players and a family of
four.

Verbs
Verbs are the action words in a sentence that describe what the
subject is doing.
Verbs almost always come after a noun or pronoun. These nouns
and pronouns are referred to as the subject. The verb thought
comes after the noun Jack, so the action Jack (subject) was taking
was thinking (verb).

Mark eats his dinner quickly.

We went to the market.

You write neatly in your notebook.
4.
They thought about all the prizes in the competition.

Adjectives
Adjectives are words that describe or modify another person or
thing in the sentence. The articles— a, an, and the — are
adjectives.
We use adjectives to describe nouns. Most adjectives can be used
in front of a noun:

They have a beautiful house.
●
We saw a very exciting film last night.
●
Their house is beautiful.
●
That film looks interesting.

Adverbs
An adverb is a word that modifies (describes) a verb (he sings
loudly), an adjective (very tall), another adverb (ended too
quickly), or even a whole sentence (Fortunately, I had brought an
umbrella). Adverbs often end in -ly.

Pronouns
A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.
In the sentence Joe saw Jill, and he waved at her, the pronouns
he and her take the place of Joe and Jill, respectively.
(I, me, he, she, herself, you, it, that, they, each, few, many, who,
whoever, whose, someone, everybody, etc.)

There are three types of pronouns:
1.
subject (for example, he);
2.
object (him);
3.
possessive (his).
