Case Study 1: Lina
Lina lives at home but attends a residential care home twice a week to take part in leisure activities and socialise with other people.
She normally walks to the residential care home by herself as it is close by but she fell over a few days ago and now temporarily walks with a walking aid. She wants to attend the residential care home because she enjoys going but is not sure she can.
1.Why do you think she feels she can’t attend the residential care home?

Case Study Activity - Biju
Biju attends a community centre 3 times a week to participate in activities and socialise with other people. Biju used to work as a chef and used to enjoy cooking. He rarely cooks at home now as he lives on his own and has his meals delivered. He once left the cooker on at home and since then he prefers not to use it. At the community centre, they are taking a person-centred approach and have arranged a cooking activity. Biju is not sure he wants to participate in the cooking activity.

Mary is in a residential care home and loves reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. She used to be able to choose which book to read and which jigsaw puzzle she wants to do but now she finds it difficult to get out of her chair to choose without help. Mary is not in a wheelchair but needs support to walk.

Aisha is in a residential care home and enjoys participating in activities with the rest of the residents. Most of the residential are participating in a Zumba activity and Aisha is watching them. She cannot participate as she is in a wheelchair.
