Argumentation is Vital
Just 2 pieces of Evidence=1pt
MUST ADD Clear argument
Ask yourself: did I just restate my evidence OR did I fully explain how and why the evidence proves the answer in the first sentence.
- If your first sentence is evidence then that is problem number one to fix
- 2nd, make sure your evidence is as specific as you're able to get it. Add 1-3 sentences
(any more than three is likely far too many).
- 3rd, have you explained the historian logic you have- what inferences did you make. Explain them to your reader.

Argumentation sentence starter: After the Answer & Center evidence sentences
Thus if [Inference & historian logic] then [Answer] must be true b/c [Explain thinking]
A: Trade networks played a pivotal role in the rise of powerful port cities and maritime kingdoms in Southeast Asia.
CE: For example, the Srivijaya Empire, which controlled the Strait of Malacca, leveraged its strategic position to dominate trade routes and amass wealth.
E/E: Thus if trade is one of the key ways to make money and the Indian Ocean trade route was dependent on the Strait of Malacca then Trade networks, and controlling them, was instrumental in Srivijaya becoming powerful. They controlled a vital intersection. They could use this to generate revenue and could allow or withhold acces giving them a strategic advantage and way to manipulate systems to get what they want. This economic power allowed Srivijaya to maintain political stability and exert influence over neighboring regions.
