A: Trade networks played a pivotal role in the rise of powerful port cities and maritime kingdoms in Southeast Asia.
CE: For example, the Srivijaya Empire, which controlled the Strait of Malacca, leveraged its strategic position to dominate trade routes and amass wealth.
E/E: Thus if trade is one of the key ways to make money and the Indian Ocean trade route was dependent on the Strait of Malacca then Trade networks, and controlling them, was instrumental in Srivijaya becoming powerful. They controlled a vital intersection. They could use this to generate revenue and could allow or withhold acces giving them a strategic advantage and way to manipulate systems to get what they want. This economic power allowed Srivijaya to maintain political stability and exert influence over neighboring regions.
