- describe some characteristics of a scaled copy
-Let's explore scaled copies

Vocabulary: scaled copy

Resizing Pictures

Suppose you were given a picture and you wanted to change it in some way (make it bigger, smaller, tilted). How would the new picture look? With Geogebra, we can find that out.

3

Warm Up - Page 2

Video on resizing pictures and a Geogebra activity that allows you to resize pictures.

4

Open Ended

You saw five portraits labeled A to E in the GeoGebra activity. Pick ONE portrait and describe how it is the same as or different from the original portrait.

5

Warm-Up Page 3

Look and see how each of the portraits compare with the original.

6

Let's Talk Fun Houses

You go through a fun house and you stand in front of a mirror.......and what you see isn't what you'd expect. The mirrors are curved so the picture looking back at you is different.

1st vocab term - Scaled Copy

A scaled copy is a copy of an image where every length in the original image is multiplied by the same number.

For example, if a picture is 3 feet long and 2 feet tall, and you multiply the dimensions by 2, now the picture would be 6 feet long and 4 feet tall.

Drawings 1 and 2 are the same shape as the original, but the sizes are different. (Yes, scaled copies can be smaller than the original; not just larger).

Scaled Copies

Drawings 1 and 2 have different shapes. Drawing 1 is more spread out. Drawing 2 is more narrow.

Look at the Original. 3 of these are scaled copies of the original. Circle the 3 scaled copies.
