What is a Community?

A community is a group of people who share something in common.

Communities can be based on:

• Location (where people live)

• Interests (what people like)

• Culture (shared traditions and beliefs)

Examples: Neighborhood, school, sports team, religious group

Students and teachers who learn together

Classroom Community

All students, teachers, and staff in a school

School Community

People related by blood or living together.

• Communities often face problems that affect their members.

• Identifying problems is the first step to finding solutions.

What is a Cause?

• A cause is the reason why something happens.

• Causes of community problems can be:

  • Natural (e.g., weather, disasters)
