La Francophonie En Afrique du Nord
(The French Speaking World)
In Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia, all former colonies of France, French remains the preferred language in many political, intellectual, commercial, and artistic circles. While Arabic is the official language in these countries, some consider French the langue d'ouverture, a language that can lead to opportunities for multiculturalism (promotion of multiple cultures) and success. A new generation of creative writers, musicians, and filmmakers from these countries enrich cultural relations by bringing together French and ethnic traditions in their art.
