​The Beauty of Borobudur Temple

Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the world located in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. Built in the 9th century by the Syailendra Dynasty, this temple is a world cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO.

Borobudur Temple has magnificent architecture with a mandala design which symbolizes the universe in Buddhist belief. The temple consists of nine terraced courtyards, six square and three circular, with a large stupa at the top. Each level is decorated with reliefs depicting the life of Buddha, totaling more than 2,600 panels and 504 Buddha statues. At the top of the temple there is the main stupa which is surrounded by 72 small bell-shaped stupas containing Buddha statues. From the top of the temple, visitors can enjoy extraordinarily beautiful views, including Mount Merapi to the east and the Menoreh hills to the west.
