Simple Present Tense

●Simple present tense adalah tenses yang digunakan untuk
menjelaskan kejadian yang teratur, rutin, atau kebiasaan
yang terus terjadi sehari-hari.

●Simple present tense memiliki dua jenis kalimat:

Simple Present Tense (nominal form)

Kalimat nomina adalah kalimat yang menyatakan kebendaan, bisa berupa nama
orang, profesi, tempat, dan segala hal yang dibendakan, jadi predikatnya berupa to be
(is, am, are).

●Positive Form

Subject + to be + Complement.

●Negative Form

Subject + to be + not + Complement.

●Interrogative Form

To be + Subject + Complement + ?

Simple Present Tense (verbal form)

Kalimat verba adalah kalimat yang menyatakan tindakan atau perlakuan, jadi

Like + ing

Kita dapat menggunakan kata like, don't like, love, hate dan don't mind + ing untuk
menyatakan perasaan kita terhadap suatu aktivitas.

Contoh:

Menggunakan verb-ing setelah kata kerja “like” akan terdengar lebih alami. Secara
umum, kita lebih suka menggunakan verb-ing setelah kata kerja like, love, atau
hate.

Present Continuous Tense

●present continuous tense berfungsi untuk menunjukkan sebuah aktivitas atau kondisi yang sedang
terjadi sekarang, sering terjadi, dan dapat dilakukan atau berlanjut ke masa depan. Dalam bahasa
Indonesia, biasanya aktivitas ini ditandai dengan kata “sedang” atau “lagi”.

●Kondisi dimana continuous tense digunakan:

1.Situasi di mana suatu kejadian tengah berlangsung sekarang.

Contoh : Mr. Mandala is making dinner right now.

2.Situasi di mana suatu kejadian sudah direncanakan dengan pasti untuk terjadi di masa
depan.

Contoh : The event is starting next week.

3.Situasi di mana sebuah perubahan atau perkembangan sedang berlangsung untuk waktu
yang lama.

Contoh : The apple tree is growing.

Simple Present Tense VS Present Continuous Tense

●Perbedaan antara simple present tense dengan present continuous tense
adalah:

Simple Present Tense adalah jenis tenses yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan
suatu kejadian yang dilakukan sehari-hari atau berulang-ulang, baik setiap
hari, setiap minggu, setiap bulan, dan seterusnya.

sementara Present Continuous Tense digunakan saat menyatakan kejadian
yang sedang berlangsung.

●Bandingkan kedua pernyataan ini:

'I play tennis' memberitahu kita bahwa bermain tenis adalah sesuatu yang selalu
dilakukan oleh pembicara. Ini adalah bagian dari rutinitas atau kebiasaan.

‘I am playing tennis’ memberitahu kita bahwa pembicara sedang bermain tenis sekarang.
Biasa disebut sebagai situasi sementara.
