Gravity
Gravity is what holds you down.
Without it you would float around.
It is the force that makes you stay,
On the earth so you can play.
When you trip it is what makes you fall,
Gravity affects us all.

Friction
When two surfaces slide against each other, a force called
friction makes them stick very slightly together. It is harder
to move things when there is a lot of friction holding them
back, but if there were no friction at all, people would slip
and slide around whenever they took a step.
9
Smooth surfaces, like ice and
glass, are easy to slide over.
They create very little friction.
10
Rough surfaces like rock and
sand create much more
friction, and are easy to group
on to.

Story Problem
The Eiffel Tower is one of the most majestic pieces of art in
the world and is located in Paris, France. It took over two
years to build and was completed in March of 1889. Parisians
built the tower just to show that they could build a
freestanding tower using only iron. It is 300 meters tall and
125 meters wide with a square base.
Your task today is to create a freestanding tower using only
spaghetti sticks and mini marshmallows with your team. Take
time to design your tower first, this is a very important step!
