What is multiplication?

​An operation where one number is added to itself a certain number of times.

When you combine two numbers, called FACTORS, to produce a result, called the PRODUCT.

4 x 3 = 12
The numbers 4 and 3 are the factors and 12 is the product.

How could we use that to figure out what 7x7 is?

Equal Grouping: makes it easier to count and calculate large quantities instead of counting each item individually.
