Liam couldn’t stop grinning as he walked into school. His favorite shirt was on, and he found a penny on the way in—heads up. “Today’s my lucky day,” he whispered, clutching the raffle ticket in his pocket. The whispers about a mysterious prize filled the room, making his heart race.

Maya sat at her desk, tapping her pencil nervously. “It’s due tomorrow... right?” she muttered, flipping through her planner. She was almost certain she had one more day, but a nagging doubt crept in. Her friends were whispering about the "big assignment," but Maya didn't dare ask for fear of the answer.

Jack smiled as he finished the strange-looking snack his friend had offered him. At first, everything seemed fine, but now, his stomach gave a tiny, uncomfortable gurgle. He shrugged it off, but a few minutes later, a wave of queasiness washed over him. He frowned. Maybe trying new foods wasn’t the best idea...

As Emma packed her backpack that morning, she glanced at her cat, Max, curled up silently on the couch. He hadn’t moved much, and his eyes seemed dull. She hugged him gently before leaving. All day at school, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong, her heart heavy with worry about what she might find when she got home.

Eli stared out the window, his eyes flicking to the clock every few minutes. The decorations were up, and the cake sat on the table, but the room was quiet—too quiet. "What if no one shows up?" he thought, biting his lip. His phone lay beside him, silent and still.

Jake laughed, tossing the ball to his friend. Nearby, a small, fluffy dog wandered up, wagging its tail. The kids gathered around, petting it and giggling. But Sam hung back, eyes narrowed. "I don’t know, guys," he muttered, glancing around. "I have a bad feeling about this."

The school Jog-a-thon was off to an amazing start. Kids laughed as they raced around the track, the sun shining brightly above. But in the distance, dark clouds began to gather. A low rumble of thunder echoed faintly, hinting at a storm that slowly crept closer, unnoticed by the runners.

The kids rummaged through the old shed, laughing as they uncovered rusty tools and dusty trinkets. “Look at this!” Sarah shouted, holding up an antique lantern. Everything was fun—until Liam found the mirror. It was cracked, its frame covered in cobwebs. The air grew colder as they stared at the jagged glass, a chill creeping up their spines.
