Paris Olympics Opening Ceremonies

3

As I stood on the deck of the boat, the excitement of the 2024 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony hit me all at once. I was here, in Paris, cruising down the Seine River with Team USA. The Eiffel Tower glowed in the distance, lighting up the night sky. The whole scene felt like something out of a dream.

4

Around me, my teammates were full of energy. I spotted Sydney McLaughlin, the track star, chatting and waving to fans along the riverbank. Caleb Dressel, the swimmer who had won so many gold medals, was nearby, grinning as he took it all in. "This is incredible," he said, and I couldn’t help but agree.

5

Our boat was packed with American athletes from every sport—swimmers, gymnasts, basketball players, and more. The crowd on the riverbanks cheered loudly as we passed, waving American flags and chanting, “USA! USA!” I waved back, feeling a rush of pride. Wearing our red, white, and blue uniforms, we represented not just ourselves but our whole country.

6

As the boat moved closer to the main stage, the ceremony really started to pick up. There were performers dancing along the river, and colorful lights lit up the water. The music was booming, making it feel like the whole city was alive and celebrating. I glanced over at Simone Biles, the gymnastics legend, who was smiling and waving to the crowd. Even after all she had accomplished, you could tell she was as thrilled as the rest of us to be here.

7

But just as the night seemed perfect, I felt the first drop of rain on my face. I looked up, and in seconds, the sky opened up. It wasn’t a light sprinkle—it was a full-on downpour! The rain came down so hard it soaked us instantly. Some of us gasped, and I heard Sydney laugh, “Of course it rains!”

8

For a moment, I thought everyone would run for cover, but no one moved. In fact, no one cared. Simone threw her arms up and started laughing, and soon, everyone was following her lead. The rain couldn’t ruin this night—it only made it better. Sydney, Caleb, and Simone were all laughing and spinning in the rain, and before I knew it, I was, too. We were drenched, but it didn’t matter.

9

The performers kept going, even though their costumes were now soaked, and the music never stopped. I looked out at the crowds on the riverbanks. They were just as soaked as we were, but still cheering and waving their flags. Nothing could stop the excitement of the Olympics—not even a rainstorm.

10

As our boat floated past the main stage, I took a moment to soak it all in. This was what the Olympics were about—athletes from all over the world, coming together to celebrate sports, unity, and the joy of being here. And no amount of rain was going to take that away.

11

By the time we docked, we were dripping wet, but no one cared. Sydney was still laughing, Caleb had water dripping off his hair, and Simone was as energetic as ever. I knew this would be a night I’d never forget. The 2024 Paris Olympics had officially begun, and I was right there, experiencing it all—rain and all.
