Before doing the exercises keep this in mind:
You must complete two texts using the right tenses according to the situation. The first text is a mixture of the four past tenses that we already saw in class and the second text is more focused on past perfect continuous so you can practice. However, be aware that other tenses could appear.

The Haunted House
Yesterday, I ____ (decide) to explore the abandoned house at the end of the street. I _____ (hear) rumors about strange noises and ghostly sightings, but I ______ (never believe). As I _____ (approach) the house, I _____ (notice) a chill wind that seemed to follow me.
I hesitated for a moment, but curiosity got the better of me. I ____ (push) open the creaking front door and stepped inside. The house was dark and dusty, and cobwebs hung from the ceiling. I could hear the faint sound of dripping water somewhere in the distance.
As I explored the house, I ______ (feel) a sense of unease. I ____ (have) a feeling that I _____ (be/not) alone. Suddenly, I heard a noise coming from the attic. I climbed the narrow staircase and peered into the darkness. There, in the corner, I saw a pair of glowing eyes staring back at me.
I froze in terror. I _______ (never/see) anything like it before. The eyes seemed to follow me as I backed away. Just as I was about to turn and run, I heard a loud crash coming from downstairs. I rushed down the stairs and saw that a vase _____ (knock) over.

The Lost Treasure
The archaeologist ________ ( search) for the lost treasure for years. He _____ (look) over ancient maps and texts, trying to decipher the clues. He ______ (interview) local historians and elders, hoping to find a lead.
Finally, a breakthrough came. A local elder ______ (mention) that her grandmother ______ (tell) her stories about a hidden cave filled with gold. The archaeologist _____ (exite) by the possibility. He _______ (gather) his team and ______ (set) off to the location described by the elder.
After days of trekking through the rugged terrain, they found the cave. As they ______ (explore) the cave, they _______ (discover) a hidden chamber filled with treasure. The archaeologist's years of searching ___________ (finally pay) off.
