Unit 3 Lesson 2:
Translations

​Goal:

Students will identify the rule for a given translation and perform translations of geometric figures.

Concept:

​Translation

Horizontal and/or vertical transformation of a figure on a plane.

​Procedure:

1) When moving right, add to x.
2) When moving left, subtract from x.
3) When moving up, add to y.
4) When moving down, subtract from y.

What is the rule?

​EXAMPLE 1:

Translate figure RQTS,
down 3 and left 5.

​EXAMPLE 2:

Translate figure ABC,
up 1 and right 2, and give the coordinates of A'B'C'.
