Unit 3 Lesson 2a:
Evaluating Linear Functions

2

Goal:

Students are going to evaluate and graph linear functions.

3

Concept:

Linear Function

Linear equation (y = mx + b) expressed in function notation.

4

Concept:

Function Notation (Linear)

f(x) = mx + b, where the slope-intercept form is expressed as a function of "x".

5

Procedures:

1) To evaluate functions, substitute values for "x" into the function and see what outputs are produced.
2) To graph functions, either use slope intercept form, or use substitution to produce and graph coordinates.
3) To write linear functions, find the slope and intercept of the graph and write in "f(x) = mx + b" form.
