Definite Articles

• In Portuguese we have the following definite articles:

  Masculine Singular ---------- O

  Masculine Plural ------------- OS

  Feminine Singular ---------- A

  Feminine Plural -------------- AS

* These are the equivalent to the English "THE"

​Masculine SINGULAR - o

• O carro

  O carro do Manuel é branco.

  (The car of Manuel is white)

• O amigo

  O amigo do Pedro chama-se Manuel.

  (The friend of Pedro is called Manuel.)

• O Canadá é um grande país.

  (Canada is a big country.)

Feminine SINGULAR - A

• A casa

  A casa do Manuel é branca.

  (The house of Manuel is white.)

• A amiga

  A amiga do Pedro chama-se Rita.

  (The friend of Pedro is called Rita.)

• A mão

  A mão do bebé é tão pequenina!

  (The hand of the baby is so small.)

​Masculine PLURAL - OS (more than 1)

• Os animais

  Os animais são nossos amigos.

  (The animals are our friends.)

• Os meninos

  Os meninos estão a brincar.

  (The boys are playing.)

• Os portugueses

  Os portugueses são simpáticos.

  (Portuguese people are nice.)

• As raposas

  (The foxes are animals.)

• As pessoas
