Bilal Ibn Rabah -the First Muazzin in Islam

Bilal Ibn Rabah للاب نبا حابر (May Allah bless him) was one of
the most trusted and loyal Sahabah (companions) of the prophet
Muhammad (Peace be upon him). He was born in Mecca in the year 580
AD. Bilal was among the emancipated slaves freed by Abu Bakr due to
the Islamic teachings of slavery. He was known for his beautiful voice
with which he called people to their prayers. Bilal ibn Rabah was also present in all of the
major events and battles, including the Battle of Uhud and the Battle of the Trench. In
January 630 AD, the Muslims were able to regain Mecca through nonviolent means. After
the Muslim forces captured Mecca, Bilal ascended to the top of the Kaaba to call the
believers to prayer. It was the first time the call to prayer (Adhan) was heard within Islam's
holiest city. Bilal died in Damascus, Syria. Bilal's death is disputed between historians.
Some believe that he died in 638 AD. While others believe he died in 642 AD. It is said that
Bilal was 63 years old when he died.
