Overtime

If you work a lot of hours you should be paid overtime. Over time is usually 1.5 times (“time and a half”) your normal pay but may be higher depending on the job. Some jobs will pay overtime when you work over 40 hours.
By law, most industries have to pay overtime after 44 hours. We will use 44 as the cut-off for this course.

Overtime

There are two methods to organize your work when calculating overtime.

Method 1 - Creating a chart
Method 2 - Just doing the steps in order

The two methods are the same, they are just organized differently.

I will show you an example of each and you can use whichever one you prefer.

Method 2- Just Do It

Regular Pay: 44 x 18.75 = 825
OT hours: 48 – 44 = 4 hours
OT Rate: 18.75 x 1.5 = 21.125 = 21.13
OT Pay: 21.13 x 4 = 112.52
Total Pay: 825 + 112.52 = $937.52

Yves is a forklift operator. He is paid $18.75 per hour. If he works 48 hours in a week, how much is his weekly pay?
