• When making a prediction, you use clues from the text to guess what will happen next.

• Similarly, foreshadowing is when an author gives clues to hint at something that will happen later on in the story.

• Foreshadowing generates a feeling of anticipation or suspense in a story that compels people to keep reading, watching, or listening to the story.

• Sometimes, the clues are obvious, but other times, they are more subtle.

• Some clues may not be obvious until you get to the end of the story.
