Assignment: Past, Present, and Future Character
Lesson 3.1.10
2
You will consider one of the character's flaws and:
what the character’s past self would say about their current behavior;
what other people say or think about them now; and
what will happen to them in the future if they do not work to improve their flaw.
Gist of the Assignment
3
A character flaw is an area of imperfection or weakness that prevents a character from achieving a goal or that makes their life more difficult.
Character flaws can help add to the plot of a story and create more engaging and realistic characters.
If you need some inspiration, click through the slides on page 3 of your edio lesson. The slides represent five common character flaws.
Character Flaws

Consider one of the characters from your literature circle book. Ask yourself:
What mistakes or problems does the character encounter throughout the story?
Are there any recurring patterns of behavior that seem to cause trouble for the character?
How do other characters react to the character's actions or decisions?
What fears, doubts, or insecurities does the character express?
Does the character have any habits or traits that hold them back from achieving their goals?
