NARRATIVE TEXT

What is Narrative Text?

A narrative text is a type of text that tells a story or recounts events, often involving characters and a plot. The story in a narrative text can be real or fictional, and it usually aims to entertain, inform, or teach a lesson. Narrative texts often have a sequence of events that follow a beginning, middle, and end.

3

Structure of a Narrative Text

A narrative text typically follows this structure:

  1. Orientation – Introduces the characters, setting, and time of the story.

  2. Complication – Describes the problem or conflict that the main character faces.

  3. Resolution – Shows how the problem is solved or how the conflict ends.

  4. Reorientation (optional) – A conclusion or lesson learned from the story.

4

Language Features of a Narrative Text:

  • Past tense (to describe events that have already happened).

  • Action verbs (ran, said, saw, etc.).

  • Direct speech (to show dialogue between characters).

  • Descriptive language (to describe settings, characters, etc.).

  • Time conjunctions (then, next, after that, etc.).
