Recount Text

What is Recount Text?

A recount text is a type of text that retells events or experiences that have already happened. The main purpose of a recount is to inform the reader or listener about an event in chronological order. This text is often personal, sharing the author's own experiences or events that have been witnessed.

3

Structure of a Recount Text

A recount text typically follows this structure:

  1. Orientation – Introduces the setting, time, and participants involved in the event.

  2. Events – Describes the events in chronological order.

  3. Reorientation – A closing statement that can reflect on the event or give a conclusion.

4

Language Features of a Recount Text:

  • Past tense (to talk about events that already happened).

  • Time conjunctions or adverbs (first, next, then, finally, etc.).

  • Personal pronouns (I, we, etc.) if the recount is personal.

  • Action verbs (went, saw, played, etc.).

Example of a Recount Text

My Visit to the Zoo

Last Saturday, I went to the zoo with my family. We left home at 9:00 AM and arrived there by 10:00 AM. The weather was perfect for a day out—sunny and not too hot.

When we entered the zoo, the first animals we saw were the lions. They were sleeping under a tree, and we took some pictures of them. After that, we went to the penguin exhibit. The penguins were swimming and playing around in the water. They were so cute!

Later, we visited the elephant section. One of the elephants was eating some fruit, and I was lucky enough to feed it. It felt amazing to be so close to such a huge animal. We spent a lot of time watching the elephants, and my little sister was so happy.

Finally, we had lunch in the zoo’s restaurant. We sat outside and enjoyed the view of the giraffes nearby. At 2:00 PM, we decided to leave the zoo. It had been a fun and educational day, and I’m looking forward to visiting again!
