WH - Questions
Definition
Question words , or what we later call WH Questions are question words used to form questions in English. Does it sound familiar? Yes, WH Questions are what we usually call 5W + 1H in Indonesian. They help us obtain the information we need in conversation or writing. For example, the word "what" is used to ask about something that does not have a specific shape or characteristic. It can refer to objects, things, actions, or abstract concepts.

1. WHO (Siapa)
"Who" is an English question word used to ask about the identity of a person or group of people involved in a particular event, activity, or context. Who functions to help us identify the relevant person or subject in a context.
For example:
Who is he? (Siapakah dia?)
Who are your parents? (Siapakah orang tuamu?)
Who painted the house? (Siapakah yang mengecat rumah?)

2. What (Apa)
"What" is an English question word used to ask about objects, activities, or concepts that occur or are involved in a particular event, activity, or context. Its function is to obtain information about a particular object, activity, or concept in a conversation or situation.
Example sentences:
What is your favorite color? (Apa warna favoritmu?)
What time is it? (Jam berapakah sekarang?)
What did you eat? (Apa yang kamu makan?)

3. When (Kapan)
"When" is an English question word used to ask about the time or period of time in which an event occurs. Its function is to obtain information about a certain time or period in a conversation or situation, and to help us understand the sequence or schedule of an event.
Example sentences:
When is your birthday? (Kapan hari ulang tahunmu?)
When did you arrive in Jakarta? (Kapan kamu tiba di Jakarta?)
When is the next train to London? (Kapan kereta berikutnya berangkat menuju London?)

4. Where (Dimana/Kemana)
"Where" is a question word in English that is used to ask about the location or place where an event occurs, in a conversation or situation.
Example sentences:
Where is the nearest hospital? (Dimanakah rumah sakit terdekat?)
Where did you go on vacation last year? (Kemana kamu pergi berwisata tahun lalu?)
Where are my keys ? (Dimanakah kunci punyaku?)

5. Why (Kenapa)
This word is used to ask the reason behind an event, action, occurrence, or situation. So, when we want to know why something happened or why someone did something, we can ask "why" .
Example sentences:
Why did you come to the party? (Kenapa kamu datang ke pesta?)
Why are you late? (Kenapa kamu terlambat?)
Why did you choose this university? (Mengapa kamu memilih universitas ini?)

6. Which (Manakah)
"Which" is an English question word that helps us choose between several options. Its function is to ask for information about a particular choice from a number of available options, to help us in decision making, or to identify a specific object or person in a particular situation or context.
Example sentences:
Which color do you prefer, red or blue? (Warna mana yang kamu lebih suka, merah atau biru?)
Which book are you reading right now? (Buku mana yang sedang kamu baca sekarang?)
Which movie did you watch last night? (Film mana yang kamu tonton semalam?)

7. Whom (Dengan siapa)
"Whom" is a question word used to ask about the person who is the object in a sentence. Whom helps us in determining the relationship between the subject and object in a sentence.
Example sentences:
Whom did she invite to the party? (Siapa yang dia undang ke pesta?)
Who do you trust the most? (Siapa yang paling kamu percayai?)
Who are you waiting for? (Kamu sedang menunggu siapa?)

"Whose" is a question word in English that is used to ask about ownership or who owns a particular object or thing.
Example sentences:
Whose book is this? (Buku ini milik siapa?)
Whose car is parked outside? (Milik siapa mobil yang terparkir diluar itu?)
Whose idea was it to organize the event? (Siapa yang mempunyai ide untuk mengatur acara ini?)

9. How (Bagaimana)
"How" is an English question word used to ask about the way or process of how an event or action is carried out. Its function is to obtain information about the methods or procedures involved in a situation or activity.
Example sentences:
How do you bake a cake? (Bagaimana caramu memanggang kue?)
How did you learn to ride a bike? (Bagaimana cara kamu belajar mengendarai sepeda?)
How do you cook pasta? (Bagaimana caramu memasak pasta?)
