Backgrounds

Backgrounds allow your character to have different interactions with npc's, so for example a criminal will have a different reaction to a guard than a noble would. A background is different to a backstory because a background influences your stats, and a backstory will influence how you act in different situations.

How does the battle system work in D&D

The battle system in D&D is not as complicated as it seems, all you have to do is roll a dice for what you want to do, for example if you want to hide behind a bush, you would have to do a stealth check. if you want to attack then you have to roll a D20, and if you get higher than the enemy's armor class (AC), then you can roll to attack with another dice.

There are 126 species, in which they all have their own abilities and score changes, for example a tiefling has +2 inteligence and + 1 dexterity, so they would be a good magic class, however the mountain dwarfs have an ability score increase of +2 strength so they would be a good melee class

An example of the battle system

Let's say that you are fighting a bandit, you have to roll a D20 to beat it's armor class (AC), then if you roll higher than the AC, then you have to roll a D12, witch is one more than the HP (Health points) of this creature and then that is how much damage you deal.
