Conjugations
Latin verbs are grouped by the sign of the conjugation in their infinitive (2nd principal part) form. These groups are called conjugations .There are 4 in Latin.
The sign of the first is –a, the second is ē, the third is -e, the fourth is –i.
1st: amo, amare, amavi, amatus
2nd: moneo, monēre, monui, monitus
3rd: ago, agere, egi, actus
4th: audio, audire, audivi, auditus
6
There is also an in-between conjugation called the 3rd-io. It has the sign of the 3rd conjugation, but conjugates like the 4th conjugation. You can recognize these pesky verbs because they end in io in the 1st principal part, but have e as the sign of the conjugation.
There is always an exception!
