Unit 5 test- work on study guide & test review  to practice what YOU need to focus on the most

Reminders:

• Use flow chart on pg 128-129

• Reduce ionic subscripts to simplest forms (SOS), but do NOT reduce covalent

• NO prefixes for ionic

• Groups 1,2 metals & Al do not use roman numerals

• No “mono” for first nonmetal in covalent

• drop first vowel before oxygen

• -ate and -ite ends are polyatomic ions (use chart)- for ionic only, not covalent

• -ide endings for all binary ionic and covalent, watch out for “hydroxide”, it is a polyatomic ion OH^-1

• naming and formula writing of ionic & covalent 

• calculating molar mass

• percent composition of an element in a compound
