Advice for Caregivers
Giving teenagers access to social media is a big decision for caregivers. Experts advise that children younger than 13 should not be on social media. Also, most social media platforms require children to be 13 or older to join. However, these guidelines are not always strictly enforced.
Also, many parents allow their children to join earlier. It does not matter what age an adolescent uses social media, there are some ways that parents can help ensure that the experience is positive.
Communication
Have conversations about social media and internet safety. Allow teen to talk through situations with caregiver.
Model responsible use
Show them how to block, unfollow, etc. when living out online safety.
Set limits and expectations
Set rules such as "No phones in bedrooms at night."
Monitor online activity
Stay involved.

Go do your assignment for 6.4
Choose one of the two scenarios relating to social media and teenagers to respond to. You will be sharing advice with a parent who has concerns about either a teenager who is using social media for the first time or a teenager who is demonstrating problematic media use.
I will keep the Zoom room open for the rest of our alotted class time so you can ask me questions. Once you are done with the assignment, you are free to go!
