Indicative Mood

INDICATE means to point out or show.

Verbs in the indicative mood indicate a fact or opinion.


Examples:

I am too ill to go to school today.

My English class is amazing!

It is hot outside.

The cafeteria is serving cheeseburgers for lunch.

IMPERATIVE Mood

IMPERATIVE means very important or crucial.

Verbs in the imperative mood express a command or request.


Examples:

Go to school.

Please get up and get dressed.

Eat a healthy breakfast.

Pack your lunch.


Note: In imperative mood, the subject of the sentence is an implied "you."

INTERROGATE means to ask questions.


Verbs in the interrogative mood ask a question.

CONDITIONAL Mood

CONDITIONS are the requirements or terms that must be met before something else is possible or permitted.


Verbs in the conditional mood express something that hasn’t happened or something that can happen if a certain condition is met.


Examples:

If I feel well, then I will go to school.

If it rains, then I will get wet.

If I am hungry, then I will make a sandwich.

SUBJUNCTIVE Mood

HYPOTHETICAL means involving or being based on a suggested idea or theory.


Verbs in the subjunctive mood describe a state that is contrary to fact; something that cannot happen.


Examples:

Wish - I wish I were an astronaut.
Hypothetical - If I were rich, I would buy a beach house.
Command - I demand that everyone stop talking.
Advice - If I were you, I'd save my money to buy an alpaca.
