Anthropology = studying the origins, customs and beliefs of humans (anthro = human)

Biology = the study of life and living things

Cardiology = the study of the heart, especially heart health and diseases (cardio = heart)

Dermatology = the study of skin, especially skin health and diseases (derm = skin)

Ecology = the study of the relationships between living things and their environment

Geology = the study of earth and rocks, especially the history of the earth

Microbiology = the study of very small organisms

Mythology = a collection of stories about gods and heroes and how they supposedly shaped the history of the world

Oncology = the study of cancer (onco = tumor)

Pathology = the study of diseases (pathos = suffering)

Psychology = the study of the human mind (psych = soul)

Terminology = special words or phrases that are only used in specific fields. For example, “home run” and “foul ball” are baseball terminology, while “unfollow” and “ghost” are social media
terminology.

Endoscope = A small, flexible tube with a light and a camera on the end, allowing doctors to see inside internal organs. (endo =
within)

Horoscope = a method of supposedly predicting the future based on the alignment of the planets (horo = hour, time)

Microscope = a device used to make very small things appear large so they can be studied

Periscope = a device used for seeing around an object using mirrors and lenses. These are most famously used on submarines to see
above the water while remaining submerged. (peri = around)

Stethoscope = a tool used by doctors to listen to the heart and lungs of a patient (stetho = chest)

Telescope = a device used for viewing far-away object, making them look closer
