El verbo ir

The verb "ir" serves two main purposes.

• To express movement to a place (to go)

• To talk about an action happening in the immediate future (going to)

​Remeber that the verb IR is almost always followed by the letter "a" meaning "to"

Proper names such as Target or Costco

Improper names "generic" names such as the store or the school

​Examples:

Luis va al centro comercial.
Luis goes to the mall

​Yo voy a mi casa.
I go to my house.

​Tú vas a la tienda.
You go to the store.

​Notice how the place themselves have an article (el, la, un, una, etc) or possessive (mi, tu, su etc.) before it.

​This is to express something that someone is going to do.

​Examples:

Nosotros vamos a caminar.
We are going to walk.

​Notice how the translation completely changes and becomes "am going to" "is going to" and "are going to" without needing to to anything to the original structure. It happens automatically, it is a thing of the language.

Yo voy a comer.
I am going to eat.

Él va a jugar.
He is going to play.

Make sure that all forms of "ir" are followed by an "a" and that all nouns (person, place or thing) have something with it (an article like el or un, a possessive like mi, su, etc).
